By Hand : What’s the best present you’ve ever received that was handmade by the giver, not store-bought? Tell us what made it so special.
What a lovely thought – to go down memory lane and visit those moments where a gift touched me and made it special because it was hand made. I have received several such gifts especially from my family.
Starting with my mother who made lovely dresses for me on her sewing machine all through my entire childhood. She made frilly frocks and smart “bell-bottoms”! Night wear and pyjamas. Saree blouses and other paraphernalia as I graduated to wearing these dresses.

My daughter has made any number of handmade cards which have grown in content and depth with her. I treasure them – given on my birthdays anniversaries and even Women’s day! She writes beautiful little poems about her and me and has now started posting them on social media. Some of the words and phrases have brought tears to my eyes – of happiness and pride.
My sister is talented and has made Mural paintings and recently a few beautiful hand crafted neck pieces which I wear with pride and happiness. I am wearing one of them here.
One of my treasured gifts has been a water color painted by one of by patients.
The list is actually very long and its impossible to choose one. I would include even the meals a lady prepares when we are invited for dinner.
An extra special gift that touched me was on a birthday when my son and daughter together baked a white chocolate cake for me while I was away in hospital attending to my work.
Anything that is hand made is always exquisite and precious and I am glad I have so many of such moments that I find it difficult to choose one. Feeling blessed!
I was busy today evening and so that is all from me today.
You have a lot of nice memories…lovely!

You have all the childhood photos in black and white to remember those days. Those days outfits were really nice. Today children are missing this.
