Talking Point

Book conversation

I love conversations. Being a woman, that does not make me very unique, I daresay!

The question I am trying to answer today is how many people do I like in one conversation. The immediate and reflex answer is two. I love having a one-on-one exchange of ideas thoughts and  opinions.

I am a social person and I love a melee of a meeting as much as the next person. I love the bursts of activity at a lively party, where the voices get drowned in the buzz of music and clanging of glasses, where there are boisterous games – in fact I enjoy conducting them and participating and winning as well.  I love the ladies club meetings the book club meetings the weekly Tambola at the officers institute, shaking a leg in a group at the monthly social do’s and so on and so forth.

But talking of food for my soul… there is nothing I love more than a good meaty  conversation with a loved one or a close friend. Be it  with my husband, my mother, my siblings, my offspring or my friends, I have often been accused of unrealistic and super heavy phone bills and I plead guilty to both. I enjoy a two way conversation with one person more than anything else.  I love getting to know people and their minds and their thoughts  and I doubt there is anything that allows one to do that  better than having a tete-a-tete with him /her.

I believe words and voices bring happiness to the lonely. But I know even more than that,  it brings happiness to me!! 🙂 🙂

Give me a choice and I would love having endless conversations with the people I love. It opens doors – of the mind, the brain and to me, the heart. Conversations may be in person, on the phone or in today’s world, the virtual media. Even social media. To me it is an eternal panacea for so many things – distances in place and time. Words and conversations are an echo of our own soul.. when we open our hearts to someone it opens theirs to ours too.

So to me that is what a conversation is: A window to our souls…..

Counting Voices

A lively group discussion, an intimate tête-à-tête, an inner monologue — in your view, when it comes to a good conversation, what’s the ideal number of people?

Your writings exude so much positive energy! I believe you’ve read my mind in your response to this prompt 🙂 I have found in my work, as an ICU and hospice nurse, and in my daily life, in the many roles a woman plays, that honestly sharing a part of my heart lays the welcome mat for others to do the same 🙂 Please keep writing!

Now a days the art of conversation is dying because of lousy talk shows and debates where people just don’t listen and they shout over the mike rather than converse. Children show aggression while discussing issues in the class and lots of rebuttal to handle for the teachers. I too believe that one is enough for a healthy and fruitful conversation.

Very well expressed. I vouch for the the high that conversations give her. She’s so full of life when interacting with people in person or on wired / wireless communication. The only little issue here is that we are near paupers by the end of the month – thanks to BSNL / Airtel / other mobile service providers. I wish they were a little more considerate & gave a fat discount on telephone / mobile conversations exceeding 60 minutes.
