What’s ur Poison?

Prompt : THE GREAT DIVIDE

When reading for fun, do you usually choose fiction or non-fiction? Do you have an idea why you prefer one over the other?

bookworm

I have loved reading from the time I started reading. I was called called various names like BookWorm from childhood. Reading was fun!! Period…

As for the great divide, if it is for “fun”, I guess I prefer fiction . Non fiction needs my mind to be more focused and receptive to ideas and perceptions, make my own impressions and draw my own conclusions. While reading fiction is akin to watching a movie, or better still, letting my imagination run riot, lost in the exotic locales with the main protagonists whether a romance or a thriller. I wait for the ending with a sense of expectation, sometimes even with bated breath, to see if I have second guessed the author.

I feel it is this that I miss when I read non fiction, where the ideas of the author are what I am getting familiar with and assimilating.  I need a little more time and a little more focus to do that. i may even like to do a bit of background reading before I start on a particular book. Or if it is self help or spiritual I need my mind to be able to process absorb and digest ideas and concepts before moving on. There is usually no “ending” or anxiousness about it. A conclusion maybe, a rounding off a few “take-away”s.

Let me hasten to add that I love non fiction too, but if it is light reading, as in when I am traveling or unwinding after a long day at work, it is fiction I turn to. In general. There are works of non fiction like the Allean Pease series which are fun too. But…..

That is all I want to say today. Am busy today with my Mom.

So happy blogging to everyone else…hoping to catch your views soon.

It certainly is good to let imagination soar once a while, before non fiction 🙂

I think me and commenting on your posts are jinxed. This is the fourth time I am trying so it’s a test dose. So nothing long, let me see if this gets posted.

Woah!! Finally 🙂 My favourite is fiction too since like you said it let’s me imagine people and places in the most beautiful way that my mind can! But you should try non fiction like Brian weiss! His non fiction is more awesome than some fiction.

Really???? You don’t feel that? Hmm…He managed to convince me because of some relationships I form with people which just seems like they were a part of me. And it doesn’t happen after a long of knowing them. It’s like instant connection. That’s what I felt was explained through his work.
