PROMPT: Mouths Wide Shut
Are you a picky eater? Share some of your favorite food quirks with us (the more exotic, the better!). Omnivores: what’s the one thing you won’t eat?
Well, today’s topic is one after my own heart! I have a confession to make – I am a Foodie!
Big time!
Getting to the prompt, I was and am a picky eater, but I pick a lot of food that is laid before me, pun intended….
I also love cooking, especially for my family and friends . Am not a fan of everyday cooking but trying out new recipes and tweaking them according to my own requirements, taste and availability of both ingredients and time is one of my favorite hobbies.
I was not always like this – I barely knew to brew a pot of tea when I got married immediately after graduating form Med School. But my husband was very fond of food as well as calling friends over. So my rise up the culinary ladder was both a necessity and need of the hour. I found I loved creating stuff that was palatable and presentable. Rajiv, my husband, made it a habit to praise all my efforts – both the sublime and downright unpalatable evoked the same amounts of “Oohs and Aahs” and that was the start of my love story with food.
Needless to say the pounds were added in no time and both of soon bore little resemblance to the “lean and mean” people we both had married! The children only made me redouble my efforts and in the bargain, turned them into picky eaters as well.
Every celebration in our house involves food and most of it is cooked by me.
I recently did a #100happydays challenge and not surprisingly a fifth of the posts featured – yes you guessed it – FOOD!
As for food I do not like, I am averse to having the very exotic non veg stuff and am comfortable only with chicken mutton and seafood. Otherwise I love Indian food as well as international cuisine. I belong to South India , which is known for a particular kind of food , which I enjoy making serving and eating! We serve them on plantain leaves on special occasions and I have included a picture of a recent meal in the accompanying pic.
And so dear friends despite my frequent and unsuccessful efforts at losing the kilos I have put on in my culinary journey, I daresay my love affair with food is here to stay !
Bring it on, OLE!
A few of my recent efforts :

I love Indian food! On international flights, I always opt for vegetarian Indian meals. Wish I had access to regular REAL Indian food.
