When the words Flow N When they don’t…

BREVITY PULLS

“I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time.” — Blaise Pascal
Where do you fall on the brevity/verbosity spectrum?

I guess I would like sit on the fence on this one. I feel I do not fall into either end as such. Let me hasten to add that I lay no  claims to being perfectly balanced. Never was, either!

Its just that it depends on my mood, the subject and the person. My letters per se, (when I used to write them and my mails today) could be anything from a few words to a few pages!! To be truthful,  I agree with the quote in the prompt, one needs time to edit.

I generally write at one go and that is when I write to my satisfaction.  Carrying on from where I left off has not been my cuppa. The flow of thoughts and words is lost.  To give the devil his due, I probably  tilt towards the verbose. There is  a direct link between the speed of mentation and speech. One can extend that to writing as well. So it is actually a function of   how passionate and involved one is with the subject or the recipient it is intended for. I can wax eloquent on certain subjects and have nothing to say about others. Do I hear an echo in you ?

writing

Its the same with people – there are some, with whom time spent is always too short and others where even a couple of minutes seem too long!!

Let me stop now before Verbosity takes over…. Cheers, Folks!

I am much the same way–it’s easier to write in flowery, long, stream-of-consciousness type sentences. It means I have to do hefty rewrites any time I am writing character-driven fiction, because the characters all sound like long-winded college professors.

great post !! yes , even I second your opinion….And yes one has to write when one feels like it…its almost as if you are possessed..when you write to ‘simply ‘write , your words are constrained and thoughts limited ! happens with me when I am making response to some of the daily post prompts too…:)
