Given the choice, would you rather be heir to the throne, or the (probably) off-the-hook sibling?
Being Queen Bee sure sounds nice,
The adulation, the perks – all in a trice,
They do to one’s life, add sugar n spice.
But being a greatly loved lil’ princess
Is that, any day, any more or any less?
Food for thought, I dare confess.
Does one’s merit, chance of birth decide?
Do you have to have the throne on your side?
To be who you are, to be known far n wide?
To thine own self be true, says the dear Bard,
In today’s world, isn’t doing that a wee bit hard?
So many songs to sing, so many lives to lead.
May I have no choice to make, no less traveled road to take,
May no friend ever forsake, may I leave happiness in my wake,
May no thoughts keep me awake, may no love of mine ever be fake.
That’s how I would like it to be,
I am me and that’s all I want to be,
Queen or Princess, let me be me.
I liked the fluidity of the verse. Another well depicted poem.

Wonderful!! So well said. All of us want you to be yourself. We want no queen or princess with power or pelf.
