Its a quiet Sunday and as I listen to music on that ubiquitous gadget that goes by the name of a Mobile phone, I decide to update my blog. In my previous post, I had debated on posting a 100 happy weeks…. am still working loosely on those lines, but it may not be entirely happy…. just reflections on the week/s gone by.
But first things first .. To continue my journey in Gods own Country, my next stop is Poovar a small village, a few kilometers from the capital city of Thiruvanathapuram. It is a quiet but beautiful little village still in the process of being discovered as a picturesque holiday destination. We stayed at a Club Mahindra resort built in tandem with the untouched beauty of Poovar.
A cruise in the backwaters which finally led us to the Golden beach was an enriching experience….. the brilliant blue sky dotted with pristine white clouds, sighting the birds along the cruise, the countryside going by….. the dense mango groves creating a nature’s tunnel for us to glide through… the coconut palms along the edge of the banks reflected in the sparkling water and finally the beach where one has the Neyyar river lake on one side and the sea on the other are sights I will never forget.

The sand is a lovely golden color and the beach is rightly named after it. There are a few floating restaurants where they make a fresh catch of sea food in true Kerala Ishtyle…

Our next stop was Kanyakumari. I felt truly humbled by the unending vast expanse of water body I encountered there. It brought home to me the minuscule role we play in the Universe. It had a way of making my problems seem small and more surmountable.

The trip to Vivekananda rock in a local ferry in the choppy waters was one of its kind. My Check -in on the phone said Southernmost tip of India which made it a “goosebumpy” moment of sorts. Loved the way the wind tugged at my hair and my clothes on this rock memorial where one of the greatest thinkers of our times had attained enlightenment. I also bought a few books which my husband immediately pronounced would lie unopened for the next decade at least!
We finally went to Kovalam as well … sad to say , however the beach is but a travesty of what it was …. the sunset was still a beautiful sight to watch and savor.

Thanks for all the encouragement on my previous posts….. Have a great week and plan a trip to Gods Own country, soooon!! Its worth it!
